Executive summary of “7 Proven Strategies for Improving Your Alexa Ranking” by Michael Fleischner
Alexa ranks each website based on the number of visitors it receives. The top ranked website, Yahoo! has an Alexa rating of 1 or 2. Less popular sites could be ranked up to 5,000,000.
Finally I discovered a number of sites ranked within the top 100,000 that were all applying the same "Alexa techniques" to improve their ranking. Increasing visits from those who do not have the Alexa toolbar installed will not help your Alexa ranking. I've summarized the 7 strategies that I've discovered and applied to my own website to increase my Alexa ranking.
1. Download the Alexa toolbar and use it every day to visit your own website. You can download the toolbar here: [http://pages.alexa.com/prod_serv/associatetoolbar.html]
2. Use Alexa redirection whenever you can. For example, when providing a link to my website, I use [http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?marketingscoop.com].
3. Encourage your website visitors to add their positive testimonials on Alexa's detailed listings page for your website. This can be done by placing a link to the appropriate Alexa page on your website and asking visitors to "Click here to rate this website".
4. Write your own site reviews on the top 100 rated Alexa sites and include your redirect URL.
5. Download the Alexa ranking button, traffic history graph, info links, and other traffic counters onto the page of your website that receives the most traffic. For example, at the bottom of my home page MarketingScoop.com, I've added the Alexa ranking box.
6.Take an inexpensive ad out on the ExactSeek search directory at Exactseek.com. You'll notice that if a website is highly ranked on ExactSeek, chances are that it will be highly ranked on Alexa.
7. Get listed on as many search engines as possible by placing a free listing in DMOZ.This is the largest human edited directory on the web and is co-branded among hundreds of thousands of sites. Be patient though, it often takes up to 5 months before you see your website listed after submission.
These simple Alexa strategies are easy to implement and will make a huge difference in your Alexa ranking.
Executive summary of “5 Fantastic Ways to Increase Your Alexa Rank!”by KG Lew
Alexa is a ranking based on gathered browser data. Whether you put a lot of importance on Alexa or not, I am sure that having a higher Alexa Rank will benefit you. Websites with high Alexa Ranks have a tendency of keeping their audience and building it.
Here are 5 Great Ways to Increase Your Alexa Rank:
1. Install the Alexa Toolbar. This is the first step that will increase your Alexa Rank.
2. Get Others to Install the Alexa Toolbar.Try to convince your friends and family to install the toolbar and set your site to the homepage on their own computers. It takes only a minute and it is completely free!
3. Put the Alexa Widget on Your Website.Putting the Alexa Widget on your website doesn't only show people your Alexa Rank, but it also summons curiosity. Those who aren't using Alexa will wonder what it is, they will ultimately click on it to find out and install the toolbar. This will turn many of your returning visitors into Alexa Rank Builders!
4. Drive Webmaster Traffic to Your Website.Alexa Rank doesn't weight non-Alexa Toolbar traffic very highly; therefore, you will not see a dramatic increase in your rank if your readers don't install the toolbar. If your website can catch a lot of traffic from webmasters then you know that a good percentage of them will have the toolbar installed for their own gains and purposes. This is probably the best thing you can do to Increase Your Alexa Rank! If you aren't too sure about how to get webmasters to visit your site or you think your niche is wrong for it then you could always visit Webmaster Forums and ask opinions on your website and drop your link.
5. Write a Post about Alexa Ranking. The main reason is because it will put into perspective the value of Alexa and people who are already visiting the website will Install the Alexa Toolbar.
Unlike Google's PageRank, which only evaluates specific webpage's, Alexa Traffic Rankings apply to an entire website.
Alexa's Traffic Rankings come as a function of what Alexa calls "reach", as well as their calculated "page views". Both statistics come from data supplied by users who have the Alexa Toolbar installed. Alexa indicates that over 10 Million people have downloaded their toolbar. Criticism of the Alexa Toolbar and Alexa Rankings arise from the Toolbar's intrusive, privacy-breaking toolbar and the Alexa Rankings' bias. The Wikipedia article on the Alexa Toolbar references a 2003 forum posting estimating the actual number of Toolbar users at 180,000.
Additionally, Alexa indicates that any Alexa Ranking below 100,000 is unreliable, as is any site with fewer than 1000 visitors per month. According to Alexa, "the more traffic a site receives (the closer it gets to the number 1 position), the more reliable its Traffic Ranking becomes."
For instance, encourage all your website visitors to download and install the Alexa Toolbar. The best way to increase your Alexa Ranking is by simply getting more traffic.
